Justin Ramsundar

Computer System Specialist & Aspiring Software Engineer

BIO

As a technology professional with a solid foundation in Python and HTML, my passion extends beyond code to the systems that run it. I am an avid homelabber, constantly exploring new technologies and self-hosting services. This hands-on experience provides me with a deep, practical understanding of network configuration, hardware integration, and system administration. I thrive on deconstructing complex problems and understanding how technology works from the bare metal up to the user-facing application.

MY APPROACH

I have always been captivated by the intricacies of systems and the power of problem-solving in technology. My approach to crafting compelling and robust solutions is rooted in my passion for creating efficient, thought-provoking, and immersive experiences that leave a lasting impact on users. I look forward to continuing to craft gripping systems that challenge, entertain, and push the boundaries of technological innovation.

Experience

My career is a blend of hands-on systems administration and advanced software engineering education. I began with a strong technical foundation in IT support and have progressively taken on more complex challenges, which I now complement by pursuing a specialized degree in software engineering.

LAN Administrator

Durham District School Board (DDSB)

I manage the full lifecycle of end-user support, utilizing ServiceNow for ticket resolution, providing first-level troubleshooting, collaborating with technical teams, and maintaining a wide array of hardware and software.

Technical Supply Casual

Durham District School Board (DDSB)

I managed the successful deployment of the Windows 11 reimaging initiative across all board devices, simultaneously ensuring a seamless transition and providing dedicated Service Desk support by monitoring, updating, and resolving help

Degree in Software Engineering Technology

McMaster University (Current)

Drawing on my technical foundation, I am pursuing the McMaster B.Tech. in Software Engineering Technology to master advanced methodologies in software design, data science, networking, and real-time systems to effectively bridge the gap between complex computing systems and high-impact industrial and commercial applications with innovative, scalable, and robust technological solutions.

Computer Systems Technology Advanced Diploma

Durham College

Established my core technical foundation in computer systems and networking, encompassing comprehensive knowledge in computer hardware, operating systems, advanced network management, and modern cloud and security infrastructures, preparing me for industry-recognized certifications.

CompTIA A+ Certification

CompTIA

The CompTIA A+ certification serves as the globally recognized, industry-standard credential that rigorously validates foundational expertise across hardware, operating systems, networking, security, and troubleshooting, establishing the core technical proficiency required for today's essential IT support and help desk roles.

Projects

Group Capstone Networking project
2022

Group Capstone (Networking)

We implemented key technologies to improve performance, security, and connectivity. NAT was configured at Orange HQ and Pears Branch to enable private-to-public communication using both static and dynamic mappings. QoS and EtherChannel were used to prioritize critical traffic, allocate bandwidth efficiently, and load-balance across multiple links. ACLs were created to control access between departments, restrict external web traffic, and allow specific FTP permissions for designated hosts. PPPoE was configured between ISP-2 and Pears Branch for dynamic IP assignment using secure CHAP authentication, while eBGP provided stable routing, controlled network advertisement, and ensured redundancy between autonomous systems.

Secure Homelab Infrastructure with Cloudflare Zero Trust and Tailscale

Built a secure, self-hosted homelab environment leveraging Cloudflare Tunnel and Tailscale VPN to provide encrypted, remote access to internal applications without exposing open ports. Configured custom DNS records, Zero Trust policies, and Google authentication for identity-based access control. Hosted multiple applications for personal use and testing within a private, scalable network. This project demonstrates hands-on experience with network security, VPN configuration, and modern access management, combining enterprise-grade practices with efficient automation for a personal infrastructure setup.

Real-Time Sign Language Recognition Using AI and Computer Vision

Created an AI-powered sign language recognition system that translates American Sign Language (ASL) gestures into text in real time. Built with Python, the system combines MediaPipe for 3D hand landmark extraction, OpenCV for video processing, and a TensorFlow neural network for gesture classification. A custom dataset was used to train the model, achieving over 90% accuracy. The program processes live or prerecorded video, detecting hand movements frame-by-frame and displaying the predicted sign on-screen. This project demonstrates how deep learning and computer vision can bridge communication gaps between hearing and deaf individuals, providing a foundation for future assistive communication technologies.
